The story

After the Jackal’s execution, his widow Danallia Onnwall became Sovereign and took the name Empress Victoria.

She dismantled the Office of Quality Control and promised an egalitarian future. Goldblood nobles and other threatened factions began organizing against her.

The player characters belong to a special task force answering only to the Empress’s privy council.
